Having established a formidable reputation for quality in Chiantio Classico, in 1997 Querciabella planted their first vineyards in the wild, untamed Maremma, on the southern coast of Toscana.
The first vintage of Mongrana, released in 2005, was met with immediate acclaim. In 2013 Wine Spectator named it one of the world’s Top 100 Wines. Further awards from the magazine followed in 2019 and 2020, with Top 100 Wines and one of only 8 Italian reds at 90+ points.
The grapes of Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are harvested at the peak of phenolic maturation, each variety being treated individually up to the final blend. Following gentle fermentation management, the wine undergoes élevage in cement vats for at least 10 months, until it is ready to be blended and bottled. Mongrana is unoaked.
Mongrana is an exceptional wine at an exceptional price.
