Our name is the Italian for “Cuckoo”.
We chose it partly for its for sense of fun and Springtime; but also because it demonstrates our grounding in the local (the cuckoo is the symbol of Heathfield) and the Italian.
The pronunciation is simple – you say “Cook-oh-loh”.
This is a recording of the lovely two-minute song, “Cuckoo”, by Benjamin Britten. (Performed By The Choir Of Downside School, Purley. As Heard In Moonrise Kingdom OST).
This page explains the history of Heathfield’s connection to the cuckoo (opens in new tab).
